A beloved BBC comedy starring Lucy Punch and Joanna Lumley, is coming to Netflix UK soon

A beloved BBC comedy has secured a new home in the UK, as it's set to be added to major streaming platform Netflix.

Netflix fans will soon get to binge Amandaland, a spin-off from Motherland, which is already accessible on Netflix and Disney+ alongside BBC iPlayer.

If you haven't already watched all six episodes of the brilliant Lucy Punch-starring series, you're in for a treat, reports Digital Spy. The show centres on Lucy’s character Amanda Hughes, who is now divorced and has relocated from Chiswick to South Harlesden. She's still raising her two children, although circumstances have deteriorated: they're now teenagers.

With both Manus and Georgie now at secondary school, the titular try-hard mum-of-two has to try and get her head around "raising teenagers, dealing with modern motherhood horrors like teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts and eco-anxiety," according to the synopsis. "Not even a woman as certain of her parenting as Amanda can deal with these nightmares alone."

The programme currently has just one six-episode series, plus the Christmas special that broadcast in December and saw Joanna Lumley reunited with Absolutely Fabulous co-star Jennifer Saunders.

Fortunately a second series is confirmed, though no release date has been announced yet. The series has been a huge hit with viewers, who have hailed the sitcom as a "masterpiece" and "hilarious".

The show boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 85 per cent and was met with four-star reviews from critics as well as an average user rating of 7.4/10 on IMDB

One fan wrote: "Amanda isn't likeable, that's the point, but she shows a few sparse moments of vulnerability, of needing to be loved, of shedding the aspirational veneer... Lucy Punch is brilliant."

Another said: "This was an amazing spin off show. It was absolutely laugh out loud hilarious, every episode got better and better.”daily-mirror-icon_tv_tv-news_amandaland

Meanwhile a third added: "It's hilarious, witty and entertaining, laugh out loud in pretty much every single scene and situation! I adore Amanda in this!"

Co-creator Holly Walsh previously revealed the inspiration behind the stories featured in the BBC spin-off series and the original school-gates sitcom, Motherland.

The star, who co-wrote Amandaland with Helen, Barunka O'Shaughnessy and Laurence Rickard said: "I sit in cafes and listen in on other people's conversations and write it down word for word."

She joked: "So if you're in a cafe and I'm anywhere near you, don't say anything loud because I will write it down and use it.”

Amandaland can be streamed on BBC iPlayer and will come to Netflix on 12 March.
