David Muir expresses fears of dwindling resources in search for Nancy Guthrie
Twenty days have passed as search and rescue teams have been looking nonstop for Nancy Guthrie, who has been reported missing from her Arizona home since February 1
Anchor David Muir reported that investigators are pursuing new possible leads in the Nancy Guthrie case, despite time weighing on them.
The mother of Savannah Guthrie has been missing since February 1. Authorities believe the 84-year-old mother of the Today Show host was forcibly taken from her Arizona residence. Traces of blood discovered on her front porch were confirmed to belong to Savannah's mother.
On February 11, the FBI released black-and-white surveillance footage of a masked and armed individual standing outside of Nancy's home on the morning of her disappearance. This comes after Savannah issued a haunting prediction as the FBI released bone-chilling video of the suspect.
During ABC's broadcast of World News Tonight, the anchor suggested that the authorities are looking at multiple suspects involved with Nancy's disappearance.
Muir started off, "Tonight, why investigators now say they are open to the possibility that the masked person at her front might have had an accomplice.
"Here in the U.S., the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. Investigators are now signaling that they are now open to the possibility that the masked suspect at her front door had an accomplice."
Although investigators are not pointing to any new evidence, the Pima Count Sheriff's Department stated, "Investigators are not ruling out the possibility that more than one person may be involved."
The search for an accomplice comes as "sources tell ABC News Savannah Guthrie and her siblings are aware certain leads have not been panning out. And eventually, resources may have to be scaled back."
On screen, the captions stated, "Partial DNA recovered at the house is still being analyzed," and there is "no additional video from security system."the-mirror-icon_entertainment_tv_david-muir
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who is cooperating with the FBI, is in charge of the investigation.
The missing persons expert claimed that Nancy's case "is not a traditional kidnapping."
Instead, Gould believed there is an "emotional connection," claiming it's "someone who knows the victim or the family. That could include a stalker, an acquaintance, or someone with a personal grievance.
"Nancy's age, medical condition, lack of proof of life, and the way communication has been handled all tell me this is not a traditional kidnapping."
Gould did not believe the motive is financial, adding "Typically, kidnappings are driven by financial motives or political ideology. What we're seeing here doesn’t fit that model."
"Whatever happened here appears far more personal—and far more complex—than a simple money grab," Gould concluded.
As the search continues on Day 20, the FBI is currently looking for a man between 5'9" and 5'10" with an average build, believed to be a resident of the Tucson area.
