Winter Olympics closing ceremony fans rage ‘NBC will be dealt with’ after same complaint
The Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina officially came to a close on February 22, with a closing ceremony that honored athletes and officially handed things off to France for 2030
Some who tuned in to the Winter Olympics closing ceremony on February 22 weren’t amused, as many took shots at NBC over the same complaint as they watched the event that marked the end of the Milan-Cortina winter games.
Viewers from around the world, who also complained of experiencing "whiplash", tuned in to watch as athletes who competed in the 2026 games were honored at the ceremony, which marks the official end of the festivities after two weeks of intense competition in sports such as downhill skiing, bobsledding, and figure skating.
However, many who watched also expressed anger as NBC and other international broadcasters made a strange decision to showcase the major event on their channels, while to some of the commentary. It comes after an Olympic cheating scandal deepened as a five-word comment was caught on hot mic.
Venting their frustrations on X (formerly Twitter), viewers warned their networks about the number of ads and commercials they were subjected to while watching, and also about interviews they found frustrating.
“NBC, you will once again be dealt with for running like 7 straight minutes of ads DURING the Olympics closing ceremony,” one person wrote.
Another said, “@peacock @Olympics, why are you running multiple commercials back to back during the closing ceremony? Ruins moments to celebrate the athletes.”
Others complained that it was taking them out of the moment, as this wasn’t an everyday occurrence and deserved more respect.
“Trying to see the closing ceremony of the Olympics, but commercials are taking over. Couldn’t you just wait a little bit? This isn’t an everyday occurrence!” one person said.
“Can NBC do the no ads thing again? What the hell?” another chimed in the-mirror-icon_entertainment_tv_olympics.
“Why is @nbc trying so hard to ruin this closing ceremony? Just play the entire thing uninterrupted with no commentary, ads, or running a segment during the ceremony,” a third wrote.
Others said they didn’t like how NBC and other broadcasters were using split screens to show the action and ads simultaneously.
“NBC. I don’t care about your side-by-side ads,” one person said.
“@CBCToronto splitting the TV screen during the Olympics closing ceremony and showing commercials on the bigger half AS SOON as the Canadian athletes walk in is not the way to go,” another added.
The closing ceremonies officially handed the Games off to France, which will host the 2030 Winter Games, while 2034 will see them return to Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States.
The games ended with Norway winning the most medals, taking home 41 in total, including 18 gold. The United States took home the second-highest number of medals, 33, including 12 gold, 12 silver, and 9 bronze.
The next Olympic event will be the Summer Games, which will take place in Los Angeles, California.
Elsewhere, a controversial Winter Olympics athlete has been accused of cheating again.
